Visually Impaired Shoppers: The Perfect Target Market to Ignore

A visually impaired woman walks with a white cane.

We are all aware of today's technology, aren't we? With driverless cars and advanced artificial intelligence, have you ever thought about the accessibility issues faced by visually impaired individuals? What are brands doing to solve the problems of the visually impaired? Oh wait, let me say it before you do: THEY'RE IGNORING THEM!

The fact that visually impaired consumers can't equally benefit from products and services is a serious problem. Imagine using the same product, conducting transactions on the same web site, or paying the same price but not being able to benefit from the same quality of products and services. In reality, losing a potential loyal customer without even creating one leads to commercial losses and, at the same time, exhibits an approach highly contrary to fundamental human rights. Are brands evading responsibility or are they not even aware of the situation? What's the problem?

The fundamental problem lies in brands or establishments perceiving visually impaired consumers as a group to be overlooked. With perspectives like "There are few people who read the menu; I'll show or do the process for them," they overlook this group. Furthermore, they see no problem in intruding into a visually impaired person's personal space in the name of 'assistance.' While aiming to provide an accessible world for the visually impaired, they comfortably exploit the free world these individuals have built up until now. They not only disregard a visually impaired individual as a physical being but also ignore their social existence. In fact, the whole world does this unintentionally, including brands and brand ambassadors.

But here's some bad news for you. The number of visually impaired consumers is too significant to ignore. There are 1 million visually impaired consumers in Turkey who cannot benefit from your products and services, and globally, there are 285 million. Yes, the numbers are quite substantial, aren't they? Let's not forget, when you release a product or provide a service, you're obliged to be inclusive to each and every customer!

It's the right time to think about what's being done for this inclusivity and an accessible world.

We said, we can share the responsibility of creating an accessible world for brands and as BlindLook, we will continue to transform the products and services of brands for the accessibility struggle of 285 million visually impaired individuals. We will keep producing solutions until the 285 million visually impaired consumers have access to the products and services they deserve.

Take your place in the world created by technology and artificial intelligence for 285 million visually impaired individuals and take action to provide the service rightfully due to 285 million visually impaired consumers...
